Nov4

If you like football (and I mean soccer by that you americans!) the check out my new site. It is a digg-like site for footy news that aggregates all the news as well as providing an forum for discussion (comments) and voting in a digg stlye.

You can of course submit your own stories if you have a hot rumour for the transfer window :)

The Battle of Kruger 0

Aug10

This is so far off-topic I am not going to even attempt to defend it, but it is so cool!

Some lucky tourists were on Safari and managed to capture some incredible footage. In summary, lions attack a group of buffalo and take a calf. Whilst they are trying to subdue it, a crocodile comes out of the water and starts a tug of war with the lions. The lions eventually win, but just as you think its all over for the poor calf… a whole gang of the buffalo come back fight the lions off, rescuing the calf!! Truly amazing to watch (don’t worry there is no blood and guts) and I had tears in my eyes when the calf runs out back into the safety of the herd.

Reorganisation Complete 0

Jan25

I have now completely reworked the categories of the site to make them more logical and hopefully easier to navigate to the article you want. No doubt I have broken a ton of stuff, I guess a lot of old external links into the site are now fubar’ed and the Snap previews have some updating to do. But hopefully using the new categories you can get to anything that seems amiss.

It’s one of those things… when I started the site I started with two categories, ‘Gaming News’ and ‘Rants’. Then over the months (and I guess I can say years now!) I have added categories ad-hoc and it was very messy.

Now things are strictly organised, perhaps most importantly Reviews are seperated from rants :)

Any problems please let me know below!

Best Laid Plans… 2

Jan23

So after a fair bit of tweaking, experimenting and general improvements on the site I was just getting to a point where I was mildy satisfied with the site (in the absence of any time to design anything really great) and then WordPress go and do this to me!

So now a couple of hours of testing and backups need to be done before I find out how much of the work I have done in the last week or so goes down the drain! I’m guessing most of the plugins will still work (some now seem to come as part of WP so that’s good!) and the code changes I have made haven’t been too significant… but who knows!

Anyway here is the new changelog for WordPress 2.1 and I must admit it looks pretty damn good!

  • Autosave makes sure you never lose a post again.
  • Our new tabbed editor allows you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly while writing a post.
  • The lossless XML import and export makes it easy for you to move your content between WordPress blogs.
  • Our completely redone visual editor also now includes spell checking.
  • New search engine privacy option allows you take you to indicate your blog shouldn’t ping or be indexed by search engines like Google.
  • You can set any “page” to be the front page of your site, and put the latest posts somewhere else, making it much easier to use WordPress as a content management system.
  • Much more efficient database code, faster than previous versions. Domas Mituzas from MySQL went over all our queries with a fine-toothed comb.
  • Links in your blogroll now support sub-categories and you can add categories on the fly.
  • Redesigned login screen from the Shuttle project.
  • More AJAX to make custom fields, moderation, deletions, and more all faster. My favorite is the comments page, which new lets you approve or unapprove things instantly.
  • Pages can now be drafts, or private.
  • Our admin has been refreshed to load faster and be more visually consistent.
  • The dashboard now instantly and brings RSS feeds asynchronously in the background.
  • Comment feeds now include all the comments, not just the last 10.
  • Better internationalization and support for right-to-left languages.
  • The upload manager lets you easily manage all your uploads pictures, video, and audio.
  • A new version of the Akismet plugin is bundled.
  • Image Manager Plugin For WordPress 0

    Jan15

Yes it’s national wordpress day today apparently (or maybe I am just giving the site a once over to freshen things up :) ) Anyway I have discovered the ImageManager plugin and it seems pretty cool! For a flash demo of it click here.

Here are a couple of test images ;)

Thumbnail with pop-up. The picture is my favourite space picture of the Lagoon Croman Nebula. It looks like its painted by an artist, stuns me every time every time I see it and makes an awesome desktop!

Thumbnail with link to image. Sun setting on Mars’s horizon… incredible picture from one of the Mars landers (I forget which).
