Letter to Major Nelson 2

Feb18

If there is one thing that has gotten this site more hits than any other topic, it is the billing problem described here when moving from one country to another with an XBox Live subscription. After two years of inaction from Microsoft, it’s time to take it the top! continue reading »

Lightroom & The Kindness of Strangers 1

Adobe Lightoom is the premium Digital Darkroom for photographers. It combines a multitude of library features and combines them with some very powerful editing and processing tools in the package. Having got my first DSLR camera almost one month ago, I became quickly aware of how much I needed something to keep track of all my pictures, and something that I could use to process them, especially when shooting in RAW format. I looked at many options, Picasa2 from google, Expression Media from Microsoft, Windows Live Gallery which is part of their Live packages, CaptureNX which is Nikon’s own software, GIMP combined with ufraw, and so on.

But I found every package lacked something. Here is a very very quick overview of the four better packages I tried and my ratings on the things that were important to me.

XBOX360 – Spring Update Video Leaked 0

Apr7

Is there a special school people go to in order to learn to speak at 300 words per second like this guy?

Anyway this seems to be a genuine leaked/released video showing off the new features of the XBox 360 spring dashboard update (apparent release date is 7th May).

Some nice features include real messenger integration with Xbox live, a dedicated Marketplace blade, a low power download mode which also switches of the box when all downloads are complete, and more information on those treasured achievement pop-ups such as which achievement you got and how many points it was worth.

Watch the short video below for more.

Update Feb 18th 2009 – Letter sent to Major Nelson.. as yet no response

I am sure lots of people are aware, but to those who aren’t please read on (those who are, bear with me while I have a rant!).

I moved from the UK to Sweden about 8 months ago and obviously took my Xbox 360 with me. Afterall, I am not moving to Mars, in fact I am within Europe still and we europeans generally share a territory with most things. We all use PAL, we all like football, many share the same currency, and we all love the french (ahem).

So generally the first few months everything went swimmingly until December when my Xbox Live Gold account expired. So wanting to renew my account I tried, but no matter what I did the damn Live system refused to accept payment using a Swedish card. For some reason best known to Microsoft they don’t want my money because a Swedish VISA card is obviously different from an English one…. right? continue reading »

Live for Windows Pricing Announced 0

Mar7

Taken from gameinformer.com

"While Microsoft was quite quiet about Live for Windows Vista, today during a press event prior to the Game Developers Conference the company revealed to Game Informer Online the exact pricing structure for the service. Live for Windows Vista will actually be the same exact price for Vista as it is for the Xbox 360. Just like with the Xbox 360 there will be a free Silver package as well as a Gold package which retails for $49.99 for a year subscription, $7.99 for one month, and $19.99 for three months. Good news for gamers who already have an Xbox Live Gold Membership – you’ve already subscribed. Your Live membership works on the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Live for Windows. Your gamer tag and achievements will be used across both Xbox and Vista PCs. Upcoming Vista games like Halo 2 and some exclusive Vista casual games will include achievements and will be able to add to your gamer score. We’ll have more on this as it becomes available."

Indeed great news for those who have an Xbox Live gold account already, but I wonder how much interest there will really be amongst non-xbox gamers?
