Progress on the New Look 0

Apr16

So a lot of the new design is in place, but there is still a lot of more minor tweaking to do. There are a lot of things I like personally about the new look, not least the ease of reading and the clear division between content, the other items such as tags and comments.
I like having just one major spot for the adverts (necessary evil to try and pay for hosting I am afraid) which is prominent, yet not intrusive on the content itself. I have chose to go for image ads only, instead of a mixture with the Google links I am so tired of seeing, which will probably mean less variety in the ads shown and greater dependence on Google to get the relevancy right.

The layout works better using short intro snippets on the main page and more extensive use of the ‘Continue Reading’ instead of posting a whole post on the main page. This will be a challenge I need to undertake in the future to make sure that the intro is really enticing people to read the full article. I have adjusted the posts currently on the main page to this format, but nothing earlier… I will fix the rest over time (famous last words!).

Navigation is something I am still working on, I really need to condense the current list of 15 categories down to maybe 4 or 5 which is what I am working on now so I can finish off the menu bar, so for now tags, search and related posts are playing an important role as the sole means of navigating older content.

Anyway if anything is broken, ugly or if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know in the comments.
