I have prepared a few things that are covered really badly the general review press recently that are close to fruition.
The first is the “Windows Home Server Blowout!” HP were kind enough to send a review unit of their Media Smart EX475, which I was going to review alone. However Fujitsu Siemens have one of their Scaleo models en route so I thought it would be nicer to do a full comparison review.
However in my research of the above units there was one more supplier in Europe of purpose built hardware for Windows Home Server and that is a very interesting small company called Tranquil PC in the UK. Their units boast insanely low power requirements which should be one of the first concerns you have when buying an ‘always-on’ machine and the Intel Atom processor. I will see if they can send a review unit and then a full comparison of the three best options (in Europe at least) can fight it out together for the WHS crown.
Talking of Intel Atom processors, a review is also coming for the Asus eeepc 1000h. This tasty little netbook has just landed and I am currently taking it through it’s paces to see what all the fuss is about, and to see exactly how a netbook might fit into the average home.
Last but not least, an article on wireless utopia. Having moved to a fairly large house with a large garden, my wireless coverage from the venerable Linksys WRT54g was just not cutting the mustard. So I am midway through an eductional piece on how to tackle the problem.
All in all it’s to be a busy December with all the hardware to cover, but everyone loves the smell of fresh silicon in the morning right?
